The Gayatri Devi Goenka Award
The Gayatri Devi Goenka Award for Women of Substance was launched by the GD Goenka Group, honouring women who redefine strength and impact.
Its first recipient? Chhaya Sharma; a name synonymous with justice, precision, and relentless commitment to law enforcement.
A distinguished IPS officer, she has led some of India’s most high-profile investigations, including the 2012 Nirbhaya case, securing swift arrests and a record 18-day chargesheet. From dismantling organised crime to driving human rights reforms, her career is built on action, not just words. Now serving as Special Commissioner of Police (Training) and SPUWAC in Delhi Police, she has trained over 90,000 personnel in India’s new criminal laws, laying the foundation for a stronger, more accountable system.
Dr Amrita Bahl, Chief Education Officer of the GD Goenka Group, hosted an unfiltered fireside chat with her, digging into her experiences, challenges, and vision for the future. The evening also saw Ms Renu Goenka, Vice Chairperson of GD Goenka Group, and Prof. Dr Kim Menezes, Vice Chancellor of GD Goenka University, felicitating her in recognition of her extraordinary contributions.
Ms Chhaya Sharma is an officer whose influence extends beyond enforcement — shaping the very fabric of justice.
